Murphy was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor in a ceremony held at the White House. Lt. 戰技競賽（三）飛行菁英箭靶抱鴨蛋 隔天，輪到本隊執行箭靶射擊的課目，這個課目就是1架拖靶機以鋼索拖著一個箭靶，然後沿一個類似「跑馬場」的封閉航線飛行，在平直飛行的階段，則由參賽機隊按規定依次進入機砲射擊的航線，每架參賽機有不同顏色的機砲彈彈頭，只要打在箭靶上，就會留下標記做為評分參考。 最重要的是，靶打完之後一定要完整的帶回來，由拖靶機飛臨機場上空時以剪斷器將鋼索剪斷，讓箭靶掉在跑道旁的草地上，這才完成任務。 但………，天下絕不可能有這麼好、這麼完美的事。 我參加的箭靶射擊課目就是狀況百出，先是天候狀況不佳暫停飛行任務，緊接著又有總部長官臨時出主意，認為「不按排班表演練才能看出真本事！」 長官就是長官，他的話沒人說是錯的，反正只要不是參賽的部隊，所有在場的人都點頭贊同，只差沒有人高喊「長官英明！」 而我，本來是飛4號機，被長官這麼一搞，竟然要飛拖靶機，這實在是玩笑開大了！因為飛拖靶機是要經過考核的，而我根本沒資格。當我想做意見具申時，隊長一個眼神馬上就制止了我。 能怎麼辦？除了硬著頭皮上，你還有其他辦法嗎？ 短短30分鐘，隊長就將他所知道有關拖靶機的操作限制傳授給我，然後還告訴我：「是要你飛拖靶機，不是要你把我們飛到脫靶！」 身為革命軍人，精神壓力真是無比沉重。 我依規定很平穩的將拖靶機飛得超穩，相信我，如果有一杯有表面張力的水，飛行途中都不會漏出來的！ 結果你猜，隊上箭靶打得最準的「神射手」，竟真的一砲將鋼索給打斷了！這位「神射手」正是隊長自己。 就這樣，4個被聯隊部公認是超級射手的飛行菁英，卻在箭靶射擊課目上抱了個大鴨蛋。..
